So summer has finally arrived in Newcastle, after a bout of snow and a touch of hail – it was beautiful blue skies and sweet glorious sun at long blooming last!
There was one thing I really, really wanted on a lazy Sunday……..
A big fat filthy beast of a burger.
I’ve tried most of the burger joints in Newcastle city centre, but this sort of hankerin’ was something I was going to have to settle at a place called Jam Jar.
I needed a beast.
A real man burger.
So real that Jam Jar have a man versus food style challenge! Something which I will most likely lose so I’m settling for their incredible Cow vrs Pig!
Settled nicely in a leafy, trendy part of Osborne Road in West Jesmond, just a stone throw away from the city centre, it has developed quite a cult following.
We lounged on the benches, chilling out, listening to the old school & new tunes blasting through the speakers.
Snug corner !?! hmmm….might be handy for date night…
It’s a relaxed atmosphere with friendly waitresses and waiters but more importantly; you can book!
Behold the Cow vrs Pig burger! Triple stacked bun goodness filled with 7oz thick steak patty topped with tender moist BBQ pulled pork with apple sauce and swiss cheese!
Just look at this filthy beast! I mean just look at it!
A close second is their signature Jam Jar burger with steak patty topped with crispy bacon, Red Leicester cheese and a side of fries. Still pretty darn good, not as big as the Cow vrs Pig and you definitely can stuff this in your mouth!
A slider trio medley of burgers with sweet potato fries. You can choose any 3 types of burgers from the menu except for the Cow vrs Pig. A great choice to sample a majority of their burger selection.
We have here from left to right The Castro Giovanni Breaded chicken with basil pesto, mozzarella, rocket and crispy prosciutto ham, The El Pablo Mexican spiced beef patty with guacamole and sweetcorn relish and Jam Jar burger.
Silence swept across the table as we tuck in with the exception of a few murmurs and moans as we tuck in.
I’m not sure how but we actually made room for dessert squeezing in their brownie with ice cream and berry coulis.
Burger and shakes always a good combination and pretty darn good as a dessert option, practically slurping it down. On the left we have the Hazelnut alcoholic shake and the right is their thick Oreo Milkshake.
They also do deals on certain days, Monday is Roll the dice for cheaper drinks, Tuesday’s 2 burgers 2 fries for £14 is just totally worth it, and Thursdays 2 steak meals and 2 glasses of wine or soft drinks for £20 sounds like a pretty good date night idea. Topping it all off with a pub quiz on Sunday night! Never been, never tried, may give it shot – think they’ll let me use Google?
You know what’s pretty dangerous about this place, they also deliver via Deliveroo! oh help me!

I know of a company called Jam Jar Lights, but I didn’t know there was a bar with such a similar name ;))
This burger challenge looks incredible. Right now I could really do with one massive burger though – so hungry!
I was there and I can ensure its tastiness and juicy meat 🙂 nice place to chill out on a Sunday
