CHINA
China can feel overwhelming for first-time visitors. It was for me. The language barrier is real, Google doesn't work, and everything's just different. Worse for me because I look Asian presenting and they expected to understand, but the people are very friendly and accommodating so it helps a lot!
I recently visited Shanghai and it blew my mind, ultra-modern skyscrapers next to traditional neighbourhoods, incredible food scene, efficient metro system, and a city energy unlike anywhere else I've been.
These guides cover the practical stuff for visiting China like how to use VPNs (essential!), navigating without Google Maps, what to download before you go, and how to actually enjoy your trip instead of just surviving it.

Quick China Travel Tips
Visa: Most nationalities need a visa in advance. Some cities offer 72-144 hour visa-free transit.
VPN: Essential! Download ExpressVPN or similar BEFORE arriving. Google, Instagram, WhatsApp don't work without VPN.
Apps to Download: WeChat (for everything), Alipay, Baidu Maps, Pleco (Chinese dictionary)
Money: Chinese Yuan (¥). China is increasingly cashless - WeChat Pay and Alipay dominate. Some places don't take cash. Credit cards less common.
Language: English is limited outside major tourist areas. Have hotel address in Chinese. Translation apps are essential.
Internet: Public WiFi requires Chinese phone number. Get a Chinese SIM card or use VPN with data roaming.
Food: Chinese food is incredible and nothing like Western "Chinese food." Be adventurous!
