For first timers- take a look at tips on what to do before travelling to Japan and what to look out for as well.

Quick Japan Travel Tips

Visa: Most passport holders get 90 days visa-free. As always, please check your government website for the latest details and rules for visa to come into Japan as they could change constantly before visiting.

Money: Japanese Yen (¥). Cash is still very important - not everywhere takes cards. ATMs in convenience stores work with foreign cards.

Language: English in Tokyo/Kyoto tourist areas; limited elsewhere. Google Translate camera feature is a lifesaver for menus.

Transport: JR Pass saves money if doing Tokyo-Kyoto-Osaka. IC card (Suica/Pasmo) for local transport. Google Maps works perfectly.

Etiquette: Remove shoes indoors, don't talk on trains, bow when greeting, no tipping, respect temple rules.
