THAILAND

Thailand is one of those countries everyone visits but few people really understand. Most travellers do the same circuit - Bangkok for two days, Chiang Mai for elephants, island-hopping in the south - then leave thinking they've "done" Thailand.

I've been to Thailand multiple times and I'm still discovering new things. Yes, Bangkok is chaotic and overwhelming. Yes, the islands are beautiful. But there's so much more beyond the banana pancake trail that most backpackers miss.

From the insanity of Bangkok markets at 3am to hidden neighbourhoods tourists never find, from street food that costs 50 baht to rooftop bars charging 500 baht for a cocktail - Thailand has everything. These guides cover what actually worked, what was overhyped, and the mistakes I made so you don't have to.

Quick Thailand Travel Tips

Visa: Most passport holders get 30-60 days visa-free depending on nationality. Do always check your government website first for the latest visa details before visiting.

Money: Thai Baht (฿). ATMs everywhere. Cards widely accepted in cities.

Transport: BTS/MRT in Bangkok is excellent. Grab app for taxis. Tuk-tuks are fun but negotiate price first.

Food: Street food is incredible and safe from busy stalls. Pad thai, som tam, mango sticky rice - it's all delicious. Don't skip street food because of safety fears.

Language: "Sawasdee krap/ka" (hello), "Kop khun krap/ka" (thank you). Tourist areas speak English.

Scams: Common ones include tuk-tuk "tours," gem shops, and closed temple scams. If it sounds too good to be true, it is.

Best Time: November-February is cool and dry. March-May is HOT (40°C+). June-October is rainy season.
