AN EVENING AT TOKIMEITE MAYFAIR LONDON

26/02/2017 · In: Places to eat

Tokimeite Mayfair London www.whatsupcourtney.com

Good lord this happened last week. Yes, as you may or may not realise I am back in good ol relatively sunny London.

A quick 3 hour journey by Virgin train, I landed in Kings Cross station and head over to the Canary Wharf to meet my bestie. You may have seen her on my Instagram, and it’s her birthday weekend which only means one thing. We eat! and boy did we eat. Think I gained a few pounds but heck it’s worth it.

We discovered Tokimeite along Conduit street in Mayfair London and tried their six-course tasting menu.

Gearing ourselves up for a treat, we stopped by Green Park tube and 10 minutes later we were taken upstairs to our table.

Tokimeite is opened by Japanese Chef Yoshihiro Murata who with three restaurants in Japan that boast seven Michelin stars – I already have high expectations especially to try their Wagyu beef, an item they are notorious for.

Set across three floors, each floor exudes high-end Japanese interiors with beautiful chandeliers.

We slurped on a few cocktails and a mocktail for me, as we joke and catch up on recent news, work and gossip.

We were presented with our appetisers, consisting of different types of exotic leaf salad which will convert a salad hater into a lover.

Their Wagyu beef tartar topped with chives and poached quail egg melted in your mouth.

Although as much as I adore this crispy, succulent prawns- its wasabi sauce it’s coated in was slightly overpowering (perfect if you are a fan of wasabi).

The main course was a Wagyu beef Sukiyaki with onions, watercress, and truffles shavings. The waiter turned on the burner, mixed in the watercress then delicately layered the beef on top and told us to wait an agonizing few minutes while it cooks.

Took all my willpower not to dig into it. Patience prevailed and it was worth it. It reminded me of my childhood as my family used to have Sukiyaki every other week. The beef was soft and tender and you can taste the flavour of the onion and truffles coming through. This dish was my highlight of the evening.

The second main course was a piece of smoked salmon which was slightly undercooked but tasted pretty good nevertheless.  I can’t the fault the sauce it came with. (I’ve been binge watching Masterchef recently haha)

Speaking of cutlery, how beautiful are these traditional chopsticks and the bowls? Seriously need to find out where they sourced it from.

And then finally, we got down to some proper, grown up sushi.

A plate that consisted of lightly seared Wagyu beef sushi and vegetable rolls.

The beef was delicate and rich – it almost felt as though it would melt on your tongue, like butter.

For dessert, we sampled their Green tea and Caramel ice cream. Nice touch on the crumble and matcha dusting on the plate which added texture to the ice cream.

I have to admit the service can be cold at times. There was no music for a good 15 minutes which was baffling and our waiter was slow to take our drinks order.

Nevertheless, it was quite an experience, we enjoyed the food and had a lovely time catching up.

A good reason to put on a new dress and show it off.
