Tucked away in King Edward’s Bay, Tynemouth is a shack, a fish shack called Riley’s Fish Shack. Can you find it?
No? Then follow me…
Here’s a clue…
Head down this path, follow the signs, do mind your step, and you reach a hidden restaurant by the beach!
Behind every shack is a story, this story grew from a mobile cart and as word spread about the quality of its fresh fish menu, business boomed! And with the help of crowdfunding, they moved to a permanent location.
And earlier this year, Riley’s was featured in a Channel Four TV series by Michelin chef Michel Roux Junior called ‘Hidden Restaurants’ where Michel Roux explores the UK finding secret eateries.
This place is notorious amongst the locals here, and always busy! A queue is almost to be expected.
How to order at Riley’s Fish Shack?
Notorious for their fresh seasonal produce, everything is made in their little kitchen complete with a pizza oven where they use it to make their homemade bread and other delicious things!
Order at the till, and give your name to the waiter. Food can take a while to arrive as it is freshly made.
Gives you ample time find a cosy spot to sit and they will bring your order to you!
Words cannot describe the view – a lovely spot if you manage to grab a spot inside overlooking the bay.
Oh did I mention there is a lifeguard post next door?!
If there are no seats available, head on down to the beach and pull up a chair.
Plus when the sun shines in England, you really have to make the most of it!
Take off your shoes and dip your toes in the cool sand.
Food glorious food! Rustic and homely! A taste of beach life.
We shared the Chilli Fish (Monkfish) Empanadas served with handmade wood fire flatbread with their signature vinaigrette salad and Hepplewhite Chipotle Chilli Relish.
And sweet grilled corn on the cob with sprinkles of black pepper, a beach must! Reminds me of home.
Seabreeze, sunshine, gentle splashing of the waves, and great food! Complete utter serenity!
It’s really getting hard to move away from here.
Should you find yourself in Tynemouth in the NorthEast, don’t even think of walking by without popping in for a bite!
